Exceptionally Talented Artists Create Peace Amid Chaos in a Rainbow of Colors and Styles

ANNOUNCEMENTS: (Many apologies for the delay, the middle got erased somehow and I had to redo a large portion!)

1. Please be sure to check the comments section of this post as we have some more Vibrant Chaotic Rainbow entries coming in today!!!

2. Tonight at 9pm EST I will be a guest on Blockhead Radio Live! http://www.blockheadradiolive.com/. Please tune in if you have a chance and feel free to call as I'd LOVE to hear from you. Also, check out the previous post for a great Artist PlayDate!

WOW! Let me just say that again. WOW! I'd like to congratulate you all on making this the largest Thursday Sweet Treat to date. Give yourself a round of applause!! I began my piece but due to a disruption did not get to finish it. I will be sharing it in the Mini-Monthly happening soon.

I'd like to take a moment to thank all of you - those who are participating and those cheering. I feel like I have slide down a rainbow into a HUGE pot of gold. This week the work was taken up another notch. Artists challenged themselves in new ways - new works, new materials - and what they created was pure joy. These works are inspiring, heart-felt, mesmerizing, thought-provoking celebrations of chaos, peace and the rich colors of these artist's lives. I am incredibly moved by all of these magnificent works of art. I take my hat off to you - YOU are an incredible group of artists. Your risk-taking, professionalism, passion and unique vision are an inspiration to me.

Now, I invite you to bask in the beauty of rainbows......

Felicia Kramer, creator of Another Bright Idea, created this gorgeous piece titled, “Rainbow Daisies”.

"Another fun theme this week," said Felicia. "Let’s see … Vibrant? Check. Rainbows? Check. Chaotic? Sort of. At least as much as my orderly mind will allow!"

Kim, creator of Twisted Thicket, created this amazing piece titled, "The Formation of Dreams".

"Some pieces have a story behind them, others just appear from deep within you. This piece is one of the latter." said Kim :)

Patti, creator of Peacoxcreations, created this striking "Seven Rainbow Amigurumi Fish."

http://peacoxcreations.etsy.com/

Kris, creator of Lisianblue, created this stunning rainbow egg ornament.

"I thought about doing something with all the colors of the rainbow - such as a whole lot of flowers with all the different colors, or coming up with some other convoluted idea, but then I thought, why mess with such a wonderfully perfect work of art such as a rainbow - and so I created a rainbow egg ornament," said Kris. "I did play around with using different shades of some of the colors, but basically stayed with the rainbow pattern of colors. I do like the idea of doing a whole bunch of flowers with all the colors of the rainbow - and may just make one anyway!"

Meg, creator of Olliegraphic, created this fabulous illustration.

Maureen, a talented artist, dedicates this week's Thursday Sweet Treat sharing to her wildly wonder-full daughter Amanda, aka Persistent Green (whose womb-name was Rainbow!).

"I dropped watercolor inks onto wet 140 lb. watercolor paper, and then blew (and spit!) with a very high-tech (ha!) straw. Even though I leave for the airport in 43 minutes and have scads more to do to be able to be gone for 2 weeks, this Vibrant Chaotic Rainbow insisted on coming into being. Therefore I leave on my trip with paint staining my fingers/my painting resting on the kitchen sink/my living room full of my art table and the remnants of last night's LATE paintplay. A perfect way to leave and to be greeted upon my return. Natasha, no words are big or deep or broad enough to thank you for what you have done for all of us with your inspiring project. "

Janet Lockerby McCoig, creator of Metalology, created this Post-Modern Deconstructed Rainbow Chaos. It is sterling silver, with a man made opal, a natural amethyst and a lab sapphire.

"I wanted to reflect a disarticulated rainbow, so I made the arches separate pieces and arranged them to go in all different chaotic directions in front of the round, smooth surface of the sun," said Janet. "The vibrant colors of the rainbow are represented by the stones set in the fine silver bezel cups at random places around the rainbow arches. I had fun making this piece! Thanks for the challenge!"

Laura, creator of Sleepless Imagination, created this gorgeous work.

Ceridwen, creator of Wanderlust Bling, created this stunning piece.

"This week's theme was great," said Ceridwen. "I had loads of fun searching through my stash for ROYGBIV beads. I'm quite happy with the mix of textures and shapes that resulted."

Allison, creator of AllyBu created this fantastic Circles and Stripes Pleated Slouch Hobo bag.

Allison said it's “A rainbow of happy colors”.

Kelly, creator of Backward Glances, created this incredible work of art titled, "Color Chaos" .

"This piece has an entirely different feel from my usual work, very young and impulsive, not so "finished". It was an exercise in "make do", as I have to work with only what I have on hand - I have NO stores available to go pick up supplies, so I spent a fair bit of time experimenting with different items to get the look of the finished piece," said Kelly. "It has all the colors of the rainbow, but not in the standard rainbow order. In addition, the silver rings reflect the different colors adding an additional layer of chaos and black helps everything pop."

http://www.mackin-art.blogspot.com/

Steph, creator of A Paper Buffet, created this fantastic card.

"I immediately thought of my high school physics teacher when I saw the rainbow theme, and how he taught us to remember the order of the colours of the rainbow- he introduced us to Mr. Roy G. Biv (Red, orange, yellow, Green, Blue, indigo and violet)," said Steph. "I created a rainbow by cutting out some circles in the colours of the rainbow, stacking them, and then cutting them in half. I combined a St. Patrick's day card with the rainbow theme, I had that little pot of gold on my brain....I'm still searching ;)"

Jess, creator of CLine Creations, created this exquisite Rainbow Barette. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=22439493

"With chaotic rainbows, I was inspired to create a bright, fun hair accessory -- a Rainbow Barrette," said Jess. "I've had a bunch of these plain barrettes lying around for awhile, and I decided to make an ornamental Chinese knotting piece to create a unique hair barrette. I think this will be the first in a new series!"

Agathe, creator of Meherio68, created this unforgettably elegant, vibrantly chaotic rainbow.

"This really came together as of its own volition," said "I love rainbows. I love how they feel like a piece a luck, a fluke, serendipidity - all those things we need so much to keep believing in. I remember, last Autumn, after, or rather during, a fairly spectacular storm, in the countryside, spending a long ting time gaping in wonder at a gorgeous, truly marvelous one. I took photos, though they cannot even begin to capture the wonder of the real thing, but the photos act as very effective mementoes of a moment of reclaimed childhood. To me, pearls are the same as a rainbow - little short of a miracle. I enjoyed particularly being able to mirror the wonderful phenomenon, using these whimsical pieces of nature that are all different sizes and shapes and therefore reinforce the symbolism of the rainbow : harmony through variety."

Iris, creator of Iris Design, created this phenomenal piece.

"When I saw the rainbow theme I immediately thought of painting something with blue sky and green rolling hills but decided I needed to go back to my photography as I haven't done that for some time," said Iris. "I'm quite taken with the result although it might look a bit broody."

Jodi, creator of Jodi Horgan, created this magnificent purple rainbow cuff.

"I adore making these bead embroidered cuffs. I especially love these 1/2 inch cuffs," said Jodi. "I love that you can wear lots of these 1/2 cuffs together. For this week's theme I wanted to explore the shape of the rainbow instead of trying to tackle all the colors in one piece. I repeated the arching shape of a rainbow over and over again on the cuff."

http://www.jodihorgan.etsy.com/

Samantha, creator of Jeans and a Sweater, created this awesome piece titled, "Chaotic Rainbows." http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6518961

"First I tried making a scarf...hated it. Started making another scarf...hated that one as well. Then all of a sudden, I remembered this vintage trim that was originally used to make my jeans a few inches longer, back in the 70's, and a red pair of jeans. Here it is!

http://jeansandasweater.etsy.com/

Lorrie Veasey, creator of Our Name is Mud, created this sensational mug.

"I think I am over rainbows... I mean--somewhere over rainbows!" said Lorrie. "Here is my mug inspired by The Wizard of Oz. It is handpainted earthenware."

Michelle Ciarlo-Hayes, creator of mkcphotography, created two spectacular pieces titled "All in a Row" and "Apple Collage".

"Once again this week I had a creativity hurdle...until I took my two very active boys to a very crowded grocery store...chaos, anyone?" said Michelle. "As I wrangled children in the produce section, I saw all the baskets of colorful apples - a rainbow of sorts - and I finally had my inspiration! I couldn't decide between the two styles (Through the Viewfinder and Macro), so I picked them both (bad pun very much intended). Enjoy!

All in a Row

Apple Collage

Elizabeth, creator of Moon of Glass, created this lovely Rainbow Wall Swish. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=22463008

"This is a clear piece of glass with smaller glass stripes across it to form the rainbow pattern," said Elizabeth. "The glass has been manipulated to create a bent, s-shaped pattern. It's ready to hang."

Janie, creator of Lifeartdesigns, created this awe-inspiring "simple little rainbow".

http://www.lifeartdesigns.etsy.com/

Becky, creator of Becky Rose, created this super fabulous shirt.

"I love colors, the more and the brighter the better!" said Becky. "I got this shirt from goodwill over a year ago and never wore it, because, well, it was black and white. I NEVER wear black and white, in fact the one time I did wear the shirt was on halloween when I only wore black and white to scare people who know me- it's that out of character. So I got out my fabric paints and had a lot of fun :) Not only do I now have a new favorite shirt but I'm encouraged to do more stuff with fabric paint so there may be a new line showing up in my shop sometime."

Before

Super Fabulous After

Pamela Gladkowski, creator of Pamela's Jewelry, created this incredible Dancing Rainbows Necklace.

"I designed Dancing Rainbows with a tribal dance in mind, an illusionary hope, the "famous rain dance", filled with hope and fantasy, and incorporated vibrant beautiful gems of the earth to represent a chaotic dance," said Pamela.

http://pamelasjewelry.etsy.com/

Marja, creator of Glass Elements, created this truly exquisite Rainbow Burst pendant. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=22471340

"Inspired by a Thursday Sweet Treat Creative Challenge, this little beauty burst its way into fruition. Rainbow Burst is a one-of-a-kind fused glass pendant with a black base and gradation of violet, blue, green, yellow and ultimately a red gold that captures the horizon. Like a rainbow that just couldn’t contain itself any longer!" said Marja.

Tiffany, creator of Love, Peace and Dye, created fantastic Vibrant Chaotic Rainbow Shorts in Size Small to Medium and Navy Blue Velour. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=22478764

"Love the theme this week," said Tiffany. "I thought it was super and just had to do my part to recycle a pair of velor drawstring waist sweat pants with love and rainbows."

http://lovepeaceanddye.etsy.com/

Amanda, creator of Persistent Green, created 2 incredibly beautiful pieces, the "WildCover jotter or journal" and "Rainbow, mixed media."

WildCover jotter or journal

"Since last week, I've been creating my new mini-books like crazy! I can't get enough--I hope others enjoy them as well," said Amanda. "This cover features a wild monoprint pulled from the leftover paint from a marbling session. "

Rainbow, mixed media

"This theme struck a particular chord with me, since my pre-birth nickname was...Rainbow!" said Amanda. "This piece was just an excuse to play--it won't leave my studio, as (I hope) my others will. The text reads: Before I was born, they called me Rainbow. Somehow, afraid to fail, I lost my shine. Now, I don't just dream in color. I live in color. I am becoming Rainbow again."

Salvaged Expression created this eye-catching, sensational belt. There is no name for it yet, any suggestions?

"This belt is my first experiment with free form crochet" said Salvaged Expression. "The impression I get is that you crochet whatever mess you feel like and then crochet your way out of it. In the middle of it all you get these beautiful little pieces of art and fun. It's also another addition to my blacklight line."

Giraffelabel created this magnificent "Twilight Top."

"Well, this week was harder than I had imagined it would be," said Giraffelabel. "Who doesn’t love rainbows? But, my mind kept jumping from one idea to the next, never really landing on one idea that I loved. So, again, I went back to the fabric. I’ve had this colorful striped fabric in my stash for about 10 years!! I loved it when I saw it, just never found the right use for it. (also, I was a bit scared to cut it and work with it…didn’t want to mess it up!) But, this was the perfect place and time for me to take that risk and jump right in. As far as the chaotic part of the theme goes, there are many places to find that…inside my head as I draped, shaped and sewed this; inside the garment at the seams that are a little crazy in places; and in my life in general (SAHM with 3 kids, 2 of whom had strep throat this week!). I liked the word “chaotic” being part of this theme, though. In my mind, it gave me license to express the chaos that I often feel. and, always true for me, the magic of seeing a rainbow and the many changes it goes through - from the instant it appears until it disappears - is a great reminder to take that moment to stop and take it all in!"

Alwaysadorable created this unforgettable piece titled, “Partly Cloudy with a Chance for Rainbows”.

"I love what rainbows signify and all the vivid colors and wishes that come with that!" said Alwaysadorable. "This is a preliminary digital painting and hand drawn butterfly collage."

Bird, creator of Kitty Hawke, created these three incredible pieces.

"These pieces were all created at the Psychic Faire Mike & I attended on Saturday. We were readers there, both for conscious channelling and for the creation of what we term 'talismanic jewelry', that is, jewelry crafted for the specific person, incorporating elements that we sense are helpful for that person at that time. The first piece was created for one of the other readers there. It's called 'Heart's Ease' because it was the replacement sent to ease the sting of her giving a certain beloved piece of jewelry away. There are rainbows in the top stone (the piece was later separated into the two individual wraps), but the even bigger rainbows were in her heart & spirit when she received it. Dyed crackle quartz, amethyst, gold-fill wire.

The second piece, "Rainbow Geometries" was another piece of dyed crackle quartz, so having rainbows in it almost by definition, that I created heady from my success with the "Heart's Ease" pieces. Dyed crackle quartz, brass.

The third piece, "March Hare" was partly my husband's idea. He handed me the piece of agate and said "Here. Wrap this." I said "Sure." and proceeded to do so. In my pre-wrap consideration of the stone, I noticed that it looked rather like a stylized rabbit's head, such as you might find in a chess set concerning rabbits. (I think of this piece as a Knight, for some reason. Not entirely sure why.)So once I had done so, I was struck by the notion that now was the time to use this certain piece of worn smoky quartz that I had traded for last year. The gentleman who traded with me had said he'd used the stone as a talisman for a long time before being told to let it go. So it seemed the perfect piece to become part of what was becoming a very talismanic piece of jewelry itself. If you look on the front of the stone, you will see a line denoting two front legs. I thought that was just amazingly kyool. He's sitting upright, but kind of twisted to both front & side at the same time.Coming attractions for this piece are a brass chain with amber attached in a manner remeniscent of bunny ears. Should be beautiful, if I can see how to make it work. :-DAgate, smoky quartz, brass."

What a fun week! I am always impressed by how each person interprets the week's challenge. Who knew so many different types of art could be created from the same topic?! It's exciting to see painters, fiber artists, graphic artists, jewelry makers (the whole spectrum) coming up with original, beautiful work.

Some of my favorites were:

"The Formation of Dreams" by Kim (Twisted Thicket). Kim- I'm curious about what medium you used and the size of the painting. It's really nice!

The watercolor painting by Maureen (Aquamaureen). I love watercolor anyway, but the way your colors blended and the patterns the paint made from blowing (and spitting) the paint around the page is really beautiful.

The Beaded Cuff by Jodi Horgan. Really beautiful patterns and colors. Amazing work!

The Flower Shirt by Becky Rose. From the photo, the shirt looks dyed rather than painted. The colors are perfect. No wonder it is your new favorite shirt!

Natasha, I can't even imagine the amount of work that goes into this blog. Thanks again...it's so much fun!

Natasha said...

Laura Pugh - I love the way you ask questions and truly celebrate everyone here...that's just awesome! You piece ...well, let's just say I heart it and you...I loved the colors and the feeling within it....gorgeous work Sleepless!! Thanks so much for the warm fuzzies guys! Inspired by Rowena, I'll be building my own etsy shop soon!

I love all the work for this week's theme: in fact-I think it's my favorite theme so far! Some of my personal faves include Felicia's Rainbow Daisies and Laura's painting--I think both would bring such happiness to whomever was lucky enough to have them in their personal space. I also thought Agatha's necklace was so unique and special--just loved the quirkiness of it. And thank goodness Iris is back!! I don't think the photo is broody: I think it is loverly!

Thanks again Tash- I can only imagine how frustrating it was to lose half this post in the middle of putting it up. Can't wait to see tomorrow's theme!!!
