Theme 9: Artistic Safari

How you choose to interpret the theme is completely up to you. It simply needs to be tasteful – no pornography or messages of hate here. When you sit down to create, you cannot think about how people will or will not receive your work. You are required to simply enjoy the act of creating. Please see the bottom of this post for how to submit a response.

“I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.” ~ Jack London

"Guns have metamorphosed into cameras in this earnest comedy, the ecology safari, because nature has ceased to be what it always had been , what people needed protection from. Now nature tamed, endangered, mortal , needs to be protected from people." ~ Susan Sontag

“The problem with cats is that they get the same exact look whether they see a moth or an ax-murderer.” ~ Paula Poundstone

“God is really only another artist. He invented the giraffe, the elephant, and the cat. He has no real style. He just keeps on trying other things.” ~ Pablo Picasso

This is going to be a tough one for me I think... I love the cheetah photo though!

SalvagedExpression - hey, why will it be tough? I have no doubt you are going to play and something fabulous will come to life...isn't that cheetah photo amazing? I was in love with it

Ooooohhhhh . . . yet another prompt guaranteed to elicit a boundless spectrum of responses--I can't wait!!!! Your quotes, Natasha, spiral us out to the four corners of imagination. London's words call to me, particularly. And the Picasso quote reminds me of one I came across Tuesday (when I was painting my Rainbow Rock and couldn't bear to waste my paint-laden fingertips and grabbed a canvas board and daubed all over it . . . on the back were these words from Picasso: "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." Thank you, again, Natasha, for yet more evocative inspiration.

Aquamaureen - I am LOVING your response to this...the quotes really moved me too and Paula's just made me laugh out loud..I thought it was all a nice balance...and I LOVE that Picasso quote you shared...I'm writing that down and throwing it up on my bulletin board...bet that canvas you created is awesome! Thank YOU for the inspiration :)

oh my safari! I think I can do this one. It's giving me that funny feeling in my stomach which means it has hit something from the subconscious. the last one had me stumped... although I have an idea on it now... too late.

Natasha, this one will be a challenge because the colors and patterns I associate with Africa and animals aren't places I tend to go for my wardrobe or even crafts. That said...it took almost all day but I'm working on something new!

I will have to submit something to this.

At the moment I'm feeling quite literal..but hopefully that will change and something kind of groovy will come to me:) I just need to run to some remote location and check out the wildlife for inspiration..oh wait, that's me being literal...dang it!!! I need to shake that off, but how? Ahhh that's part of the process:)
