Phenomenal Artists Create Treasures That Will Make You Believe in the Magic That Exists All Around Us

This week, I laughed, I cried, I celebrated and I sat here in awe of these sensational, professional, talented, warm, risk-taking artists who challenged themselves to create works that will resonate with you long after you have viewed the work.

I wish I had completed my piece but this week it was not possible. Please know that I thank you - the participants, the readers - all who make this blog what it is. Thank you for believing in me, believing in each other and believing that together we have enough magic to make this world a brighter place.

Now, join me in celebrating belief in magic!

That's the thing with magic.
You've got to know it's still here, all around us, or it just stays invisible for you.
- Charles de Lint

Maureen, a talented artist, created this positively fabulous watercolor.

"The magic I believe in is love. Not the easy, hearts-and-flowers kind, although that is lovely. I mean the what-reason-in-the-world-do-I-have-to-love kind, that loves anyway because you know that loving is as necessary as breathing. (And yes, that is our first snowfall in the background of the photo.) So my offering is Love (seven times for infinity), a 9x9 watercolor with wax resist crayon. Hey, just TRY to resist love!! It always wins!!

Jolene and Donna Hardy, creators of Funky Monkey Girls, created this simply gorgeous necklace.

“I was inspired by this Green Girl Fairy button to make this necklace with pearls and swarovski crystals....” said the Funky Monkeys.

Althea, creator of Salvaged Expression, created this truly beautiful piece.

"I call this the Friendship Candle," said Althea. "It is meant to remind me of a specific friend so I put in our favirote herbs, pennyroyal and lavender. The pink hue is actually a happy accident caused by a persistant red."

Amanda, creator of Persistent Green, created this handmade and hand-bound journal.

"For me, imagination is magic. When creativity and play come together, new worlds are born. I'm excited to think what new creations might come about in this journal, which will be up for sale soon in my shop."

Teri, creator of Giraffe Label Designs, utterly phenomenal piece, the sisters wedding dresses (not really a name, but just what it is).

"I am really lucky to have so many people in my life that believe in me, and see magic in the things I create. I love sketching, but it is not something that I just knew how to do - it took a lot of practice and is still evolving. (My first sketches are soooooooo funny, and even my biggest supporters will testify to that!!!) My mother, who see's magic everywhere and always believes in me and encourages me, has been wanting me to do some sketches for her, and that is what I have done here. These drawings will eventually be framed and given to her. They are drawings of my sisters' and my wedding dresses. By the way, I have been wanting to add some drawings to my etsy shop...what do you think?"

Trina, creator of Woven Chains Jewelry, created this simply fantastic piece titled, "My Wish".

"Sometimes in a grown-up world, magic can be very hard to find, so I decided to make something that reminds everyone that magic exists and is meant to be shared ... a teeny, tiny magic wand. Eventually, it will be a pin to wear everywhere. I hope that it will remind me -- and everyone else -- to believe!"

Marja, creator of Glass Elements, created this truly magnificent piece, All Roads Lead to the Ocean.

"I love spirals - but I never knew how much until my husband and I traveled to New Zealand to get married a few years ago," said Marja. "There were spirals everywhere –called “korus” - the New Zealand Māori name for the unfurling fern frond and symbolizes new life, growth, strength and peace. We both resonated with the symbol and the meaning, and it has become something magical for us. This piece evokes a sense of that magic – growing towards something new, and all the new roads you take to get there…"

Kris, creator of Lisianblue, created this wonderfully beautiful pieces.

"Believe in Magic

I went back to re-read the theme and noticed the phrase ".... honoring that someone or those folks in your life that have always believed in you." that I had not noticed before when I read it. There isn't anything else that would fit better than these creations..............................................

Magical is crocheting a little sweater, cap, booties for my grand-daughter who is expected to arrive in this world in January," said Kris. "Crocheting itself is magical. Magical is crocheting a sweater (not finished yet) a little cap, and booties (Peach set) out of left over yarn from a dress I made for my daughter's 2nd birthday (mom to be)- Being able to crochet these little creations for "her" is more special and magical because it was my Grand-mother who taught me how to crochet and knit, and always believed in me. Although she left this earth many years ago, she has always been with me. I hope I can be as good a grand-mother to my grand-children as she was to me. In honor of her, and especially for my grand-daughter with a whole lot of love, the beginnings of 2 different sets. Picture taken on material to be used for quilt, bumper pads, and other items."

kris - i love that connection between the generations - it is truly magical! and, the fact that the connection even goes back to your grandmother makes it even better. my daughter feels a connection to my grandmother, and they never even met! it makes me smile just to think of it! your grand-daughter is very lucky!

I'm blown away by those first two photographs. They're so well composed and so well enhanced. Perfectly magical!

My favorite had to be "My Wish." I just love the photograph of a little pin held in a hand, like a tiny little piece of hope.

Kris, I found both your explaination and pieces inspiring! What lucky grandchildren!

Thank you!

today's been full ever since I rolled out of bed a little before 7am. the last thing I've squeezed in before crawling back into bed, a little before midnight, is my visit here. seeing everyone's creations, and hearing the thoughts behind their work, just fills me with joy, and profound gratitude at being part of this artistic community.

And Natasha, it's been a while since I thanked you for giving birth to this whole venture back in January. What a difference you have made in my life.

So sorry I was completely MIA this week. Two reasons: a sister's medical emergency (she's stable for the moment) and ... had to have my studio loft repainted so the entire contents of the room is now sitting in my bedroom!

All the work is beautiful! I am blown away by alpha's photos, and I adore the little magic wand. Sure would be nice if you could wear it and REALLY make magic happen.

Hope to be back next week.

Love, love, love this collection--so much vibrant color and magic of all kinds. You warmed me up on this bitterly cold and SNOWY day (I know, it's October! What the heck?).

Marja, I DESPERATELY want your pendant! So gorgeous, and I love the meaning behind it.

As always, can't wait for next week!

Everyone - absolutely magical!

Greetings!

Love the Believe Kitty! :-)

Your pieces are beautiful, Lisianblue, as is the story that goes along with them. You're right - creation, esp. in the fiber arts, is a magickal process. :-)

That's so kyool, the way the generations have come together in yarn. :-)

Marja, that is indeed a lovely piece. As one who has been walking the Spiral Road for a bit now, I can say that this is a very magickal piece, and so true, if you think about it. All roads do indeed lead to the Ocean, in one way or another. :-)

Trina, I love your wand! :-) Will have to remember that piece for future reference. :-) What size is it and can it be put into pendant-form as well?

Teri, I like your drawings - very funky (in a good way! :-D) and unique. Why not put them in your shop? I could see some 'cards to send to the women in your life' or the like.

Amanda, another lovely journal! I'm so annoyed that life kept me from entering your giveaway. Such beautiful colors in such beautiful freedom & harmony on the page! :-)

Salvaged - what a kyool candle! :-) Pennyroyal & lavender - that sounds nice. :-) A wonderful way to be reminded of a friendship. :-)

FunkyMonkeys, what a charming & delicately balanced necklace. I love the harmony of the whole piece. :-)

AquaMaureen, I love the symbolism in your piece. And the last line of your intro is simply priceless - and so true! :-D

Btw, SNOW??? Already??? Wow! :-D

PushButtonAlpha, what wonderful magickal landscapes. I love the way you take the everyday and create from it a beautiful surreality. :-) The quote is simply perfect, too! :-D

So... absolutely amazing creations as ever! :-)

On to the next! :-D
BB & GF! :-)

Again, so sorry it's taken me so long to get here folks...but I wanted to share some thoughts -

Alpha - these blew me away!!! That first photo leaves me speechless. Did you take that yourself? It's realistic and surreal at the same time! The lighthouse photo is brilliant - it looks like a lighthouse in Cape Hatteras...but there is such an eerie feeling ..I LOVE it. Please keep creating and sharing these works - are you going to put a book together of these?

Maureen - I LOVE the colors and the way you wrote the words love in different styles. I thought it was the cover of a journal...it's brilliant. Your work just keeps getting better, bolder, brighter...I love each piece more than the last...and thanks for the visual of the snow...I still can't handle that there has been snow there!! Have you considered opening your own shop? Just curious.

Funky Monkey Girls!! First..YAY!!!!! I am so glad that you got a piece in here....this is SOO exciting. I want to commend you on your use of colors - beautiful - and the center piece is lovely. This is a striking piece ... it's very elegant and yet very strong...I celebrate the work you have done on this!!!

Sal - your friend is SOOO lucky!! This candle is gorgeous and lavendar is just one of those delicious scents...I love that there is a pink hue...gorgeous work Sal...will you be giving this to your friend?

Amanda - I am just in AWE of how this marbling technique has developed...these are sooo beautiful. They are eye-catching - they make happy places to play....everything from the colors to the binding look great. How did the contest go?? Phenomenal work...just phenomenal!

Teri - I LOVE these....GO MOM for believing in you and wanting you to create some for her....I feel so lucky that you created them here...I love your sketches because of the faces...I like the eyes or the one covered eye. I like the stands each one has because they have this fabulous attitude and energy and I LOVE the actual designs....yes, yes, yes, you need drawings in your shop. Tell me, are you seeing them as wall art with sayings and a person or as cards or something altogether different? I'm totally intrigued...

Trina - this is one of the GREATEST things I have EVER seen. You brought magic home to me with this creation. This wand is adorable and it does make me think of magic being all around us. What a wonderful idea...please send a photo of you wearing it when you turn it into a pin and make sure to include the thoughts you included here in your description in your shop....brilliant...love it...

Marja - piece after piece after piece that you create I love. It amazes me...I love the imagination in your work...these spirals...spirals in general have been a major element in my life lately appearing in the oddest placces. I love that I learned about these particular ones inspired by New Zealand korus ...I've always wanted to go to New Zealand by the way and now I want to more than ever. This piece is soooo magnificent...I love watching the new techniques you try..each time it inspires me to try new ones....great work....how did you feel when you finished this piece? Did it come together the way you originally thought it would when you started?

Kris - how are you? How is your daughter? I have been keeping good thoughts for you all. I love these pieces - they are so sweet and I especially love the generational connections here...what a gift...a true gift. This is some of my most favorite work from you...that hat makes me inhale deeply and want to hug you - wonderful work!

Primoriginals - I love the soft colors in this piece aling with the faces on the girl and the cat...this is such a fun piece.

Thank you all for being a part of this and inspiring me time and again!!
