Theme 42: Artful Mischief

How you choose to interpret the theme is completely up to you. It simply needs to be tasteful – no pornography or messages of hate here. When you sit down to create, you cannot think about how people will or will not receive your work. You are required to simply enjoy the act of creating.

Eloise is that mischievious little girl who lives at the Plaza in NYC and always has her hands in something. Whether she is wearing a Kleenex box like a hat, singing, making her turtle wear sneakers, writing on the walls, or making things up, she's always creating. This week, I want you to travel back in time - maybe you're 6 or 8. Whatever age you choose to stop on, bring something you loved doing, creating or feeling to life. Let your imagination suspend all limitations and create from that place within you that feels magical, naughty, silly, wherever that kid within wants to go. Create something you absolutely LOVE!

"I have a dog that looks like a cat
His name is Weenie
Sometimes I put sunglasses on him
Then I have to scratch his back with a wire hanger"
Excerpt from Eloise written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight.

"TV is in the Drawing Room
I always watch it with my parasol in case there's some sort of glare
And oh my Lord when it's fight night Nanny is absolutely wild and we
have to scamper into our places and get ready and Nanny has to find
her Players and I have to get my binoculars and call Room Service
and order three Pilsner Beers for Nanny and one meringue glacee
for me ELOISE and charge it please
Thank you very much"
-Excerpt from Eloise written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight.

I'm working to open myself up to the invitation in this one . . I don't remember much of "magical childhood", since an adult in my childhood didn't do what he was supposed to do, and that sort of shortcircuited a lot of the beauty of my childhood . . . BUT, I"m forever God's child, so I take this week's challenge truly as an invitation to experience something NOW that is full of childhood's wonder and joy and mischief!! we'll see what comes!!
