Happy Birthday to ....Amazing Artists and Artworks!!

Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to Your Creations, Happy Birthday Everyday, Happy Birthday to Youuuuu and many more.

Every day can feel like a birthday when you celebrate what's within you by simply creating. That's what these artists did - they celebrated their heart, their inner beauty, their vibrance and love of life. These works will make you want to create and embrace all that is within - today and everyday.

Come on...let's celebrate!

Kelsey, creator of Caffeinated Frenzy, shared "The Birthday Girl," Work in progress wool scarf.

"I've come to realize that at my best, I tend to be, well, conceited," said Kelsey. "Things are usually about me in my mind. So naturally, this scarf reflects myself :)"

Althea, creator of Salvaged Expression, created this awesome piece.

"For this week's challenge I decided to go hunting through my wax stash," said Althea. "What's more birthday-ish than candles after all? I found some wax that while it looks like really tasty cupcake icing isn't really birthday-ish at all. I call it Secret Birthday."

Amanda, creator of Persistent Green, created this breathtaking Untitled mixed media in progress.

"Okay, so my abstract piece might not look much like a birthday celebration . . . but maybe our party is at the beach, and we're playing in sunshine and ocean," said Amanda. "Or perhaps our celebration is an outdoor barbecue, with brilliant blue sky and piercing sun. Or . . . mabe I just wanted to play with color!"

Maureen, a talented artist, created this gorgeous work.

"I've been intrigued by the effects Amanda has been getting with watercolor over oil pastels, so decided to give it a try," said Maureen. "Celebrations for me always mean joy, so that what I was trying capture in this 9x9 picture."

Bird, creator of Crow Tarot Tours, created this beautiful piece.

"Every day, if you think about it, is another birthday. We are constantly reborn to ourselves... and to those around us," said Bird. "This quote came from the blog 'The World's Strongest Librarian', and its creator, Josh Hanagarne. It caught me hardcore & wouldn't let me be until I'd found a place for it.Here's the post from which it came: http://worldsstrongestlibrarian.com/5985/how-to-have-tourettes-part-22-every-second-is-a-choice Amazing stuff."

"Apologies for the text quality. It was a bit delicate for the resize to take well. I fiddled with it a bit, but it's a work in progress."

Natasha, creator of Doodlestar, created these pieces.

This flower was born after a Play-doh session with my little one. I just fell in love with the colors and it made me think about how we are all so unique. We are all so filled with color and light!

The frame was an accident. I started painting it and just love what happened when I stopped thinking about how it had to be and let it just be. It needs gloss but the colors make me so happy.

Are you excited to create?? Well, good then dive on into the next theme: Surfing the High Seas of Life - what does it mean to surf though art, life, crafts? Share the colors, the excitement, the ride as you see or feel it. You don't ever have to have surfed to bring this one to life - all you have to do is imagine and dream! Oh and you have to include a swirl of color somewhere within your work!

Once again, we've harvested an incredibly diverse crop of responses to a single prompt. I just LOVE that!!

Kelsey--those colors are wonderful. What's the "in progress" part? and is that all one scarf? Today is COLD in South Dakota, and I could use that red wrapped around my neck, RIGHT NOW!

Althea, did you make that candle?? I love seeing it posed in a forest setting .. made me think of something the Easter bunny left, which got overlooked and is still waiting to be discovered.

Amanda--this is a whole new look!! I love the angular (sp??) lines and then the watercolor washes. Looks like abstract stained glass .. lovely

Bird, that flower is breathtaking. The angle of light, the shadows . . that's a case where a single blossom can pack more punch than a whole bouquet.

Tasha--your sentence stopped me in my tracks: "when I stopped thinking about how it had to be, and let it just be." That has GOT to be one of the most important statements about defeating the Inner Critic, and setting our authentic artistic voice free!!!! That "tiedyed" frame is luscious, and I can just see it with that little extra gleam of finishing shine you mentioned.

To everybody--yet another wonderful assortment of artistic expression--Brava!!

Kelsey, Althea, Amanda, Maureen, Bird and Natasha - thank you for keeping arts alive every week!
I only had a few minutes to browse through the images...Bird - that purple single flower caught my eye (it's probably because I'm love purple!)
Enjoy ..hugs and kisses :)

Kelsey: your scarf looks so cozy and warm--perfect for these oddly chilly days we've been having lately! I love your jaunty bow at the end. :)

Althea: wax! Of course! Genius. :) Love your cute little ball-candle. Mmmm, cupcake icing... And wow, wherever you took your pictures is gorgeous!

Aqua: how did you like playing with that technique? Your colors are gorgeous and playful. It looks like a sea creature to me. :)

Bird: oooh, that flower is so delicate and pretty!

Tasha: both pieces are great, but I'm so intrigued by your picture frame! What was the accident? It looks perfect to me--such a soft and pretty blending of colors. How did you achieve that?

Oh, and . . . surf's up, dudes. ;)
